2018 IHF Awards Submission

Entry submission for the 2018 IHF Awards is now closed

The 2018 International Hospital Federation (IHF) Awards recognizes and honors hospitals and healthcare organizations for innovation, excellence, outstanding achievements and best practices in areas that are worthy of international recognition.

These include:

  • Governance, leadership, management policies and practices;
  • Quality service delivery in multiple areas at affordable costs;
  • Culture of service to motivate healthcare professionals to excel;
  • Innovations in healthcare delivery or process management;
  • Quality and safety, ethical approaches and evidence-based practices in patient-centered care;
  • Sustainable environment, energy conservation and green initiatives;
  • Addressing inequalities in healthcare service delivery to the community;
  • Advancing healthcare for emerging and developing nations

The Awards will be presented during a special Awards Ceremony at the 42nd IHF World Hospital Congress which will be held on 10-12 October 2018 in Brisbane, Australia.

Award Categories

There are altogether four Award Categories. Each Award category presents a unique opportunity to participate in a forum of likeminded innovators and access a platform of dialogue with peers engaged in similar projects.


IHF/Dr Kwang Tae Kim Grand Award

Open only to IHF Full and Associate Members. This Award recognizes excellence and achievements with proven results at health system or facility level in multiple areas including quality and patient safety, corporate social responsibility, innovations in service delivery at affordable costs, and healthcare leadership and management practices.


IHF Excellence Awards
Open to IHF Member and Non-Member public and private healthcare provider organizations. These awards recognize excellence or outstanding achievements in specific fields of Leadership and Management, Quality & Patient Safety and Patient-centered care and Corporate Social Responsibility that are of great importance to the core mission, vision and strategic direction of healthcare organizations.

  • IHF/EOH Excellence Award for Leadership and Management in Healthcare
    This is for entries which demonstrate excellence or outstanding achievements, among others, in:
    • Enhancing governance, leadership, management policies and practices;
    • Creating and fostering a new culture of service that motivate staff to excel;
    • Managing finances and resources effectively;
    • Achieving major breakthrough in productivity improvements or innovations in healthcare delivery or process management.

  • IHF/Austco Excellence Award for Quality & Safety and Patient-centered Care
    This is for entries which demonstrate excellence or outstanding achievements, among others in:
    • Promoting quality and safety;
    • Enhancing patient education, engagement and empowerment;
    • Promoting ethical approaches and evidence-based practices.

  • IHF/Bionexo Excellence Award for Corporate Social Responsibility
    This is for entries which demonstrate excellence or outstanding achievements, among others in:
    • Providing quality healthcare services at affordable costs;
    • Promoting volunteer contribution to community care;
    • Promoting sustainable environment, energy and green initiatives;
    • Reducing inequalities in healthcare service delivery to the community;
    • Advancing healthcare for emerging and developing nations.

Submission of Entries

Entries must be submitted online by creating an account in this website. Previously registered users or those who submitted an abstract can use the same login details.

After logging in, select the category where you would like to enter your project or program. A project can only be entered in one award category, submitting one project in several categories is not allowed. A maximum of two entries per facility/organization may be submitted to the Awards.

Each category will have a dedicated online entry form. This includes basic information about your organization and project and a number of questions that you will need to answer. To view the form, login and click on the specific category.

Entrants can include additional supporting documents by uploading them before submitting the entry form. PDF, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and JPG files are accepted. Up to 5 files can be uploaded and maximum file size is 8MB.

Eligibility

All entries for the Awards must be for activities, services, projects and/or programs which have been completed or substantially completed from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2017 with quantifiable achievements/results/outcomes which can demonstrate innovation and/or excellence of the healthcare provider organization as a whole. Activities, services, projects and/or programs that have been completed before 1 January 2015 but had significant results or achievements within the specified 3 year time frame may also be submitted.

Consultancy companies or vendors representing public/private hospitals or healthcare facilities are NOT eligible to submit award entries. Only Healthcare service providers (public or private) can submit entries.

Awards Ceremony

The 2018 IHF Awards will be presented to Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit Awardees of the 4 Award categories during the special Awards Ceremony at the World Hospital Congress in Brisbane, Australia.

Awards Trophy and Prizes

Trophies with the organization’s name and award received will be given to Gold, Silver and Bronze winners of each Award Category during the Awards Ceremony. Merit Awardees will receive certificates also during the Ceremony.

Gold, Silver and Bronze winners will be invited to publish their projects in a special issue of the IHF Journal, World Hospital and Health Services, as well as be considered for webinar presentations.

Gold Winners
Gold Winners of each category will receive monetary award for travel and accommodation costs and complimentary registrations in the 2018 IHF World Hospital Congress (details below). They will also have the opportunity to present in a special concurrent session for Gold Winners.

  • IHF/Dr Kwang Tae Kim Grand Award - 5,000 CHF* + 3 complimentary registrations
  • Excellence Awards - 2,500 CHF* + 1 complimentary registration
*NOTE: Receipt of monetary prizes by the Gold Winners is conditional on attendance at the Awards Ceremony at the 2018 IHF World Hospital Congress.

Silver and Bronze Winners
Silver and Bronze Winners of each category will be offered 1 complimentary registration to the 2018 IHF World Hospital Congress. They will also have an opportunity to display a poster in the Congress exhibition area.

Merit Awardees
Merit Awardees of each category will be offered discounted registration to the 2018 IHF World Hospital Congress. They will also have an opportunity to display a poster in the Congress exhibition area.

Selection Process

The selection process of Award winners will be in two phases.

Phase one will be by the International Judging Panels composed of at least three judges per Award Category. These panels will comprise of Awards Committee and IHF Honorary Members. Each entry will be reviewed and scored independently by at least three judges having demonstrated no potential conflict of interest. Judges will not review entries submitted by participants from their own countries. After computing the composite scores of the entries, the Judging Panels in each category will discuss to determine and agree on a list of finalists. A maximum of ten finalists per category will be included in the shortlist.

Phase two will be by a Judging Panel comprised of the IHF President, IHF President Designate, IHF Immediate Past President, IHF Honorary Member and Panel Chairmen of all Award Categories. All shortlisted entries per category will be considered by the Phase 2 judges. The decision of the Phase 2 Judging Panel on all Award Winners will be final.

Scoring Criteria

Entries will be scored by the International Judging Panels using the following criteria:

  1. Originality or innovativeness of the project
  2. Scientific rigor of the project
  3. Clarity of writing or presentation of submitted entry
  4. Scalability of the project in the region and rest of the world
  5. Affordability of the project or funding sustainability
  6. Impact of the project on quality, efficiency and health outcomes.

Scoring Scale

The following scoring scale will be applied:
5 – Outstanding
4 – Excellent
3 - Good
2 – Average
1 – Poor
0 – Very poor
